Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds Hockey Club, in conjunction with Cumulus Media, today announced that 1330 WTRX Sports Radio will be the teams official flagship station for their inaugural season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the premiere player development league for the NHL.

The agreement calls for 1330 WTRX Sports Radio to broadcast all 68 regular season games, including playoffs, in addition to airing a weekly, one-hour, call-in coach’s radio talk show. Fans will also be able to listen to all Flint Firebirds Hockey broadcasts worldwide, live online at FlintFirebirds.com and through the Rdio and iHeartRadio apps on Internet enabled devices.

Additional Flint Firebirds Hockey coverage will be heard on the Cumulus radio network of four other stations, 92.7 WDZZ (Urban Adult Contemporary), 95.1 WFBE (Country), 105.5 WWCK (Top 40) and 1570 WWCK-AM (Talk Radio).

Firebirds team president, Costa Papista states: “We are very pleased to partner with Cumulus for our live game broadcasts and our hour-long coach’s show. A great radio partner allows us to educate our fans on the Ontario Hockey League and this great community sports and entertainment project. We want to make it easy for fans to follow the Firebirds and WTRX will be the perfect fit.”

The Firebirds comprehensive radio broadcast agreement includes extended pregame and postgame shows before and after every game, giving fans the most coverage of Flint Firebirds Hockey all season long. Additionally, 1330 WTRX will air a Flint Firebirds Hockey specific, call-in coach’s radio talk show, weekly on Tuesday nights from 6-7 p.m. (ET), directly after the popular syndicated sports radio program, “The Huge Show.”

Ed Leick, Vice President and General Manager for Cumulus Media states, “We are thrilled to partner with a first class hockey organization like the Flint Firebirds. This region has a long history of support for great hockey and Flint fans are second to none. Now with the OHL and the Firebirds coming to town, our incredible fan base is in for a top notch hockey experience.”

WTRX Programming Specialist Tim Shickles states, “WTRX has a long standing commitment to bring the best in Michigan sports to the Flint area and we are proud to be the flagship station for Flint’s very own OHL hockey team. The quality and caliber of hockey, and the OHL as a whole, will be a fantastic addition to the WTRX play by play lineup.”

Flint Firebirds Director of Broadcasting & Communications Dominic Hennig will call all the action for Firebirds fans on 1330 WTRX beginning on Thursday, Sept. 24 with the season opener on the road against in-state rival, the Saginaw Spirit.

Hennig came to the Flint Firebirds Hockey Club with eight years of hockey broadcasting experience. Most recently, Hennig was the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Ferris State University NCAA Division I hockey program and was also the Assistant Director for Broadcast, Communications and Multimedia for the Ferris State Athletic Department.

During his tenure at Ferris State, Hennig broadcasted two conference regular season titles in both the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Hennig also called Ferris State’s run to the NCAA National Championship game in 2012, giving him the opportunity to announce the pinnacle of college hockey.

To further enhance the partnership, the Flint Firebirds will showcase Cumulus Media and 1330 WTRX Sports Radio with a fully integrated marketing program that includes advertisement in a variety of methods. Their presence will be seen on the Firebirds website and social media outlets, in the Firebirds game program, magnetic and pocket schedules, recognized at all Firebirds games through public address announcements including signage, and many more avenues throughout the duration of the agreement.
